Pan American Golf Association of DALLAS
1953-2022
During the summer of 1953, while playing with the Steven Park Golf association, Israel G Cabello came upon an idea. Why not get some golfing friends together, use the same pattern that Stevens has and start a Mexican American Golf Association. He discussed his idea with one of his golfing buddies, Joe Palomo, and the two of them started contacting prospective members. After talking to several people during the summer, a time and place was set and the first official meeting of the association was held on July 21, 1953 at Pike Park with I.G.Cabello presiding. Elections were held and the first officers were: I.G.Cabello, President; Joe Palomo, Vice-President; Frank Sanchez, Secretary; and Robert Bautista, Jr., Treasurer. An idea had at last become a reality and the club was off and running. The Club experienced some difficult times in its early years, but has in almost 70 years, grown from its original 9 members to its present membership of over 100. In December of 1975 the club purchased its clubhouse located at 7137 East Grand Avenue. Our clubhouse has served as a social hub for many years.

In 1957, representing Dallas, I.G.Cabello attended a meeting in San Antonio, along with
representatives from Corpus Christi, Houston, Fort Worth, Alice and Brownsville to form the largest association of Mexican American golfers in the State of Texas. The National Pan American Golf Association has since become a national organization and has grown to as many as 43 chapters in 7 states, with over 2,500 golfers. The membership is open to all golfers whose main purpose is to instill fair play, friendship, competition, enjoyment and promote amateur golf.

Dallas has hosted the annual National Tournament and Convention 7 times. In 1961, approximately 265 golfers participated. Only one golf course was needed, and it was the largest event up to that time. In 1967, 2 golf courses were required. In 1975 with 785 golfers attending, it required 5 golf courses. In 1985, with women and children participating, 6 courses were needed. In 1996, Dallas played host to over 900 golfers. In 2010, one of the most successful and enjoyable convention was held in the middle of a recession, with over 600 golfers in attendance. In 2019, over 500 attended another great convention.

From the first meeting in 1953 and throughout its 69 years of existence, the association has had many members who have given so much of their time to making this an outstanding organization. To these members, our thanks for the unselfish efforts contributed towards our PRIDE and JOY – The Pan American Golf Association of Dallas.
